Established in 1913, Castle Golf Club, is one of the oldest clubs in the greater Dublin area. Anyone visiting the Club for the first time is immediately surprised at the unexpected seclusion & beauty of its location, tucked away behind the leafy roads & gardens between Rathfarnham and the Dodder. In 2001, in conjunction with major works being undertaken to the golf-course, the clubhouse was extended and completely refurbished.

One of the key elements of the Club’s brief to us was to upgrade the clubhouse facilities so that they would be able to cater for the requirements of the growing numbers of outings and visitors to the club without compromising the facilities enjoyed by the members. Of particular importance was the need to provide separate dining facilities for visitors and members simultaneously and that the layout of these facilities would be designed in such a way that would enable individual dining areas to be increased or decreased to cater for different sized groups and that all the facilities could be used together for major club functions such as the Captain’s Dinner, etc. The resulting design includes a two-storey extension with a large new dining room at first floor level and a caddy store beneath it at ground level.  The extension is positioned so that the new dining room adjoins the existing dining areas, with a series of folding partitions provided which enable the dining facilities to be broken-up in various different combinations. A large terrace is provided outside the new dining room overlooking the golf course which supplements the previous restricted balcony area outside the existing building. The arched walkway beneath the terrace is modelled on a feature from the previous clubhouse, which had been rebuilt as a free-standing arched wall but had then to be removed to facilitate construction of the extension.
